Lib Dems launch 10k against 10k petition

11.18.38am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 20th May 2010

Following the County Council meeting in Hertfordshire this week the Liberal Democrats have launched a petition against the 10,000 signatures required on a petition to force a debate. Liberal Democrats feel the 1,000 is a more achievable and democratic figure.

Chris White, Liberal Democrat Opposition Leader said: 'As we see the coalition government launch their agreement including plans to give more powers to communities we see the Conservative County Council putting more obstacles in the way of communities getting their issues on the agenda. We are looking to find 10k people who agree with us to trigger a debate and rethink of this ridiculous rule.'

The petition can be signed on the website www.sixtofix.co.uk link in left hand menu or http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/10kagainst10k

The site allows people to download paper copies of the petition and return them to our St Albans office.
